Early Detection Saves Lives – Colorectal Cancer Awareness

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors today. In Croatia, it is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death, just after lung cancer.
To address this, the National Program for Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer was launched. Its goal is to improve population health through timely detection of the disease and increasing the success of treatment. The program is intended for men and women aged 50 to 75 who have no symptoms of bowel disease or previous colorectal cancer diagnosis, as well as individuals following their gastroenterologist’s recommendations.
How does colorectal cancer develop?
Research shows that the disease usually develops as a result of the interaction between genetic factors and environmental influences.
In many cases, colorectal cancer originates from polyps, small growths on the intestinal lining that may eventually turn into malignant tumors. The disease occurs when cells begin to divide uncontrollably. Early detection is crucial to prevent the development of colorectal cancer.
Diagnosis and Early Detection
Colorectal cancer can be successfully detected at an early stage using simple diagnostic procedures:
1. Testing for hidden (occult) blood in the stool
This is a simple method to detect very small, invisible amounts of blood in the stool. Our CoproHemoGnost test provides an easy, non-invasive, and reliable way to detect traces of blood in the stool, which may be the first sign of changes in the colon. Individuals with a positive test are referred for further examination, most often a colonoscopy.

2. Colonoscopy
Colonoscopy is an examination of the colon using a thin, flexible instrument that allows visualization of the entire bowel. During the procedure, polyps can be removed, which in many cases prevents the development of cancer. Any removed polyps or suspicious changes in the lining are sent for pathohistological analysis.
After the tests, the patient may be referred for additional diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate treatment plan.
Our Mission
Our mission is to enable early diagnosis. Timely testing and regular preventive check-ups are key to detecting disease at an early stage, when treatment options are most effective.
