Development of antibodies for tissue samples fixed in glyoxal

All developed and commercially available antibodies used for research in immunohistochemistry (IHC) are most commonly used with tissue samples fixed in formalin. By fixing the sample in formalin active antigen sites are masked and they need to be unmasked again by the demasking procedure. The following needs to be defined by developing the new dialdehyde glyoxal-based fixative: the need for antigen demasking on the fixed tissue sample and efficiency of antibody binding on tissues fixed in glyoxal. The antibodies that are binding on formalin-fixed tissues and not on glyoxal-fixed tissues will be developed through a new project in coordination with scientific and research centers.
