Introduction
Supplements obtained by aseptic collection of horse blood aided by mechanical denaturation of fibrins and reoxygenation.
Defibrination is considered the best method of preventing blood clotting and it is important to be performed quickly with minimal hemolysis and destabilization of erythrocytes structure, although some level of hemolysis is always present in such supplements.
The product is used as a supplement to culture media to determine the type of hemolytic reactions caused by certain microorganisms and to enhance the nutritional value of the media.
Technical Data
The product is used as a supplement to culture media. For more details read the manufacturer's instructions for use for a specific dehydrated medium. Hemolytic reaction with different blood types are not identical. Culture medium intended for use with one blood type may result in unsatisfying hemolytic reactions if used with another blood types.
According to EUCAST recommendation (European committee on antimicrobial susceptibility testing) MH enriched with 5 % defibrinated horse blood (BioSap HO) and 20 mg/L β-NAD is used in the antimicrobial susceptibility testing process using the diffusion method for Streptococcus spp., including S.pneumoniae, Haemophilus spp., M.catarrhalis, L.monocytogenes, Campylobacter spp., P. multocida and other microorganisms.
